Hey there, RADIOHEART supporters! There’s so much news to share.

Production

Things are moving quickly now that we can roll film again. (More on that in a bit.) We’re lining up interviews with a rock star or two. Plus, we’ve filmed fans, and, most importantly, conducted more interviews with Kevin.

Our editor, Andrew Franks, completed our very first rough cut. Seeing the story unfold exposes its holes–where we need more interviews–and informs our search for additional archival footage, photographs, and music.

Music licensing

Music supervisor Mike Turner continues to work his magic with the labels. New clearances include:

  • “Marquee Moon” ~ Television
  • “Hate My Way” ~ Throwing Muses
  • “Your Favorite Thing” ~ Sugar

Fundraising

We are so deeply grateful to you, our donors, and thrilled to report reaching two major fundraising milestones:

1. We have been fully approved for the Washington Filmworks Small Budget Production Initiative. This allowed us to resume filming and will provide a 30% rebate on Washington-based production expenses, adding roughly $70,000 to RADIOHEART’S coffers. Seven projects were initially chosen by Filmworks; RADIOHEART is the only one that achieved full approval.

2. Woo-hoo! We have raised $355,098 between GoFundMe, our major donors, and our presumed Filmworks rebate! We’ve exceeded our initial full-length documentary fundraising goal by $3,616. Though we haven’t raised enough money to pay all expenses before the grant money is in hand, we have secured a loan from our Executive Producers to cover those expenses, should we need it.

We’re still raising funds!

Since developing our first budget last August, we have learned more about production, promotion, and music licensing costs.

As a result, we have increased our budget, and our fundraising goal, by $100,000.

Here’s the breakdown of those additional costs:

  • $50,000 for music licensing, soundtrack composition, and score development.
  • $30,000 for marketing, including film festival applications, publicity and travel.
  • $10,000 for additional production costs.
  • $10,000 for additional administrative costs, such as insurance, licensing, and other fees.

We have submitted several grant requests to foundations and should hear results within the next few months.

We are also reaching out to new potential donors. If you know music lovers who might enjoy hearing about RADIOHEART and who could be potential major donors, please contact us.
